Shopping arcade in Troisdorf
Wilhelm Hamacher Gallery enhances range of offerings
The city of Troisdorf has a population of 77,000 and is located in the Rhine-Sieg district in a tri-city area, including St.-Augustin and Siegburg. With direct competition in the neighboring towns, as well as the regional centers Cologne and Bonn, the downtown area was to score with a new business center. In 2008, the city thus issued a Europe-wide tender for a new retail property located by the community center. As a gallery and an arcade, this property is to cautiously enhance the existing band-like structure of the downtown area to a shopping triangle and to additionally enliven the side roads.
Integrating public space
In spring 2012, HBB can start the construction. According to the design by the Düsseldorf office RKW Architektur + Städtebau, all outdoor facilities around the arcade are also being redesigned in coordination with the city. The one-story arcade at ground level with retail, food, and other services on both sides will be amended by another story with retail space. Its façade is characterized by light natural stone and purposely constitutes a contrast to the surrounding construction with characteristic clinker façades. Overall, about 9,000 m² in rental area are available. C&A, Saturn, and My Shoes will be important anchor tenants. Preserving the existing underground parking garage underneath the former community center despite the demolition of the existing buildings is a constructional particularity. The modernized underground parking garage will receive about 350 parking spaces.
The opening for this project is planned for fall 2013.
