Taunusstein Shopping Mall

New shopping mall to fill the gap

The Hessian City of Taunusstein is in need of a new city center, as the current city center is only central wasteland with an abandoned train station and a provisional bus terminal. The revitalization of these areas in the city quarter of Hahn has been initiated already a few years ago with the new construction of the city hall and a new concept for the bus terminal. The plan now is to add further central functions to the city quarter – in particular retail stores, service providers, and restaurants. To that end, HBB is building a downtown shopping mall with a gross floor area of about 21,000 m² right across from city hall, on the site of the former train station.

Adequate variety at a prime location

Plans include a modern consumer market as well as specialty fashion stores, shoe stores, and drugstores, but also service providers and restaurants. The mall will feature both renowned franchise chains and local retailers. It can be easily reached by car that can be parked in one of the around 245 parking spaces on the generously equipped parking decks with direct access to the retail levels. According to a conceptual design by the architects’ office RKW, the building will include a far-projecting suspended roof and façades with clinker elements that are typical of this region.

HBB’s construction assignment also includes building yet another building on the adjacent bus terminal site. It will accommodate not only a passenger waiting hall, but also a new police station and two smaller areas for additional retail stores and restaurants. Construction is expected to begin in 2012, i.e. the mall could be opened for business in 2013.
