DOMICIL care home, Kirchhofallee II, Kiel
We responded to the remarkable success of the DOMICIL care home in Kirchhofallee by adding an additional section with room for a further 177 residents. Like the first section, building II is an attractive, modern structure built from clinker bricks. A charmingly laid out green space is nestled between the two sections.
The two sections function as a single economic unit and are linked by an underground corridor. Connecting them posed a special planning challenge for the building owner.
Just one year after opening, the building won the Schleswig-Holstein Prize for Care of the Elderly 2006! The prize honouring the development of an exemplary care concept for the elderly was awarded by the Land Management Commission of Schleswig-Holstein.
