Right on schedule: HBB care facility in Völklingen nearing completion
Approximately two years after construction began, the Hamburg-based investor HBB is launching its next senior living facility in Völklingen, Saarland. As planned, the new "Domicil-Seniorenpflegeheim Schillerpark" (Schillerpark Senior Care Home) with 150 care places will be completed in the first quarter of 2026.
Adherence to deadlines is a top priority for project developer and investor HBB. Accordingly, the new senior care facility in Völklingen will be completed this spring – as announced when construction began in 2024. For the approximately 40.000 residents of Saarland's fourth-largest city, this is an increasingly important location factor, combining modern and safe living with care services. "The project is fully on schedule. We are grateful to our commissioned general contractor, Schneider Bau GmbH from Merxheim," says Oliver Radünz, Managing Director of HBB Hanseatische Gesellschaft für Seniorenimmobilien IV mbH & Co. KG. According to Radünz, the building construction is scheduled for completion in February 2026. Final completion and handover to the future operator, the Hamburg-based Domicil Group, are planned for the end of March 2026.
Surrounded by greenery, yet part of city life
On the former hospital grounds, covering approximately 7.250 m², on Kühlweinstraße in northern Völklingen, a modern, three-story senior care facility has been built over the past two years. The new building, whose bright facade with projecting balconies, loggias, and bay windows blends quietly and transparently into the established residential area, offers a total of 140 care rooms, or 150 care places. These are distributed among 130 single and ten double rooms.
The new senior care home is surrounded by greenery: to the northeast, the small, eponymous Schiller Park borders the property. To the southeast lies the larger Bürgerpark, and to the northwest, the edge of a wooded area extends. At the same time, the city center is only about 1 km from the new senior care home. "This location of our new facility offers future residents and their families the opportunity to enjoy both nature and city life," emphasizes Oliver Radünz. The project was developed in close consultation and cooperation with the responsible authorities of the city of Völklingen, the HBB managing director recalls. He sees this as one of the key "success factors" in project management and the construction phase, "enabling us to realize such a modern building project within the planned timeframe."
Not only the transparent, inviting design, but also features such as the cafeteria open to residents of the surrounding neighborhood are intended to make the new senior care home a social meeting place in the area. Radünz added that experience from existing DOMICIL locations has shown that this goal is achieved in everyday practice, further increasing the acceptance of the facilities.
The "Domicil Schillerpark Senior Care Home" is the 51st senior care facility built by HBB in Germany and the third in Saarland. All senior care homes developed and built by HBB are owned by HBB or its shareholders and operated by the DOMICIL Senioren-Residenzen Hamburg SE group of companies.
