FORUM SCHWANTHALERHÖHE − the shopping experience in Munich's Westend
+++ New shopping quarter at the Wiesn +++ 90 shops on three levels, Foodie's Place and Co-working space +++ Opening on June 6, 2019 +++
Munich 05.06.2019 – The time has come: the new shopping district FORUM SCHWANTHALERHÖHE will open at the Wiesn on June 6, 2019. With its 90 shop concepts on 25.000 square meters of space, a modern mix of fashion, technology, sports, food, gastronomy and services, Munich's Westend will have a unique shopping destination. The interior design builds a bridge between the namesake Ludwig von Schwanthaler, art and the Munich way of life. The newly designed shopping center - consisting of an innovatively converted building core and spatial-aesthetic, extensive additions - was developed and realized by the HBB Hanseatic Care and Investment Company from Hamburg. The company invested 240 million in the construction. The underground car park, which is open 24 hours a day, provides 1.000 additional parking spaces in the district.
"With the FORUM SCHWANTHALERHÖHE we are bringing the heart of the Westend back to life," explains Harald Ortner, Managing Director of HBB. "The attractive space and the many location advantages convinced major tenants such as H&M, Lidl, Smyths Spielwaren, Das Futterhaus as well as the numerous fashion brands and catering concepts." Decathlon is opening a second store in Munich for precisely this reason, in order to be able to present its range of sporting goods in one area, which is impossible due to space constraints in the existing Click&Collect store.
The FORUM SCHWANTHALERHÖHE offers a wide selection of popular lifestyle and fashion brands such as Guess with the premiere of its new shop concept, H&M, Footlocker + Kids, Hunkemöller, Jack & Jones, Engbers, Woolworth, Orsay, Vero Moda, Reno and Olymp & Hades as well as dynamic labels such as Zeiss Vision Center, Apollo Optik, Rituals, Nature & Decouvertes and O bag. Customers can receive expert advice on technology and telephony from Saturn, Telekom, Vodafone and O2. Hugendubel and service providers round off the offer. Thanks to the large number of parking spaces, the big weekly shop can be done conveniently at Edeka and Lidl, Müller and dm or Das Futterhaus, which underlines the local supply function of the shopping district. The Foodie's Place in the basement and on the upper floor has something for every taste: Big names like Burger King and the traditional Munich butcher's shop Vinzenmurr are represented, as are gastro concepts from Asia, Organic Kitchen, Urban Soup, to café, crêpes and ice cream.
“In addition to the mix of shops and restaurants, the exceptional interior design and lounge areas ensure a real shopping experience with a very high quality of stay,” explains Heiner Hutmacher, Managing Director of HBB Center Management. To mark the opening, many shops are giving away a VIP gift bag in combination with membership in the FSH Members Club. Shops and restaurants are open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 20:00 p.m., Lidl and DM from 7:00 a.m.
The FORUM SCHWANTHALERHÖHE, together with the areas of Bayerische Hausbau, functions as the new shopping quarter on the square between Schwanthaler Strasse, Theresienhöhe, Gollierstrasse and Schießstättstrasse. The former residential and commercial complex from the 40.000s was developed by HBB and Bayerische Hausbau in cooperation into a shopping quarter with a sales area of 1.000 square metres, although the areas are operated separately. The three-storey building section with the FORUM SCHWANTHALERHÖHE and the part of the underground car park below are located on the HBB property. The northern section with a partial underground car park is owned by Bayerische Hausbau. After the renovation has been completed, XNUMX parking spaces in the underground car park are now available to the public again.
Munich's city planning officer, Professor Dr. Elisabeth Merk, adds: "We are very pleased that the conversion of the existing 1970s property has created a new, attractive shopping district for the people of Schwanthalerhöhe. In addition, the underground car park in the district will make a significant contribution to easing the parking situation."
Shopping in an artistic ambience
The Düsseldorf-based Schwitzke Group developed the interior architecture and the mall design in the FORUM SCHWANTHALERHÖHE. The design was inspired by the Bavarian sculptor Ludwig Schwanthaler, a master of southern German classicism, who created the monumental Bavaria statue on the Theresienwiese - one of Munich's landmarks. The design is inspired by Schwanthaler's artistic work and his time, the classicism era. Sculptures, etchings and drawings were interpreted in a contemporary way and combined to create graphic collages for the mall's branding. The interior design takes up classicism with clear lines, elegant decorative frames and celebratory image motifs. Opulent flowers, poetic quotes from Schwanthaler, delicate cloud images and marble structures adorn the center's highlight areas and ceiling panels. "Together with the HBB, we looked for a design theme that would touch people emotionally on the one hand and create a connection to Munich on the other," explains Marie Ernst, Managing Director at Schwitzke & Partner.
"Dancing Mirrors" is the name of the pendulum wave that the Schwabing designer, Ingo Maurer, and his team designed for the entrance area. The work of art is an expansive, almost 10-meter-high and 17-meter-wide kinetic installation made up of pendulums measuring approximately 9,5 to 2,5 meters in length that plays with the laws and magic of physics. The balls initially swing back and forth as a closed line, but after a short time, snake and wave patterns form until the balls dance around each other. Over the next 60 minutes, the pendulums complete an increasing number of full swings in a set period of time. "The FORUM SCHWANTHALERHÖHE has thus received a work of art for public space, the vibrations of which have a decelerating effect on the viewer," says Ingo Maurer. "Due to the reflective balls, the installation is ideal for selfies and Instagram posts while you're out shopping."
A light ceiling measuring around 75 square meters creates different lighting moods in the rhythm of the day and seasons. As at sunrise, the ceiling changes in the morning between pastel red-orange and light blue tones. This is followed by the blue tones of the midday sky with white clouds in color temperatures of 5000-7000K. These light colors stimulate the production of cortisol and serotonin. To create a "natural" change, cumulus clouds slowly move across the light ceiling to transform into new constellations. Until the light mood of the sunset follows towards evening. In the dark season with Christmas, sparkling stars shine from a night-blue sky.
The architecture was designed by the Düsseldorf-based firm RKW Architektur +. Their basic architectural idea was to change the path system secured by the development plan in such a way that a central shopping street was created that crossed the project from east to west. In the northern area, a public open-air walkway replaced the existing passage, which provided a huge upgrade. "The cubature of the existing building was largely retained and the coherent concept of the 1970s was taken up: the original homogeneity of the architecture was restored and formally transformed into the present," explains Jens Thormeyer, associated partner at RKW Architektur +. All of the facades of the existing buildings were replaced with the latest building materials such as ultra-light architectural concrete, in keeping with the historical context. A new, representative entrance area with a glazed ground floor becomes the new address in the district.
