A variety of new projects in the centre of Bochum

Hamburg/Bochum, 26/06/2020: The foundation stone for Viktoria Karree Bochum was laid in the business quarter. The 160 million Euro project is being built on the site of the former Courts building in “Viktoriastraße” in the centre of the city. The HBB from Hamburg is constructing an open business centre with three multi-storey shells and 38,000m2 of rental space, in addition to an underground garage with more than 500 parking bays. This project forms part of the inner city initiative for Bochum City.

Construction work for the business quarter of HBB is already fully under way

At the site, there is intense activity. Since February 2019, the former buildings of the Courts were cleared of all harmful substances and then torn down. Then the “August Prien” company took over the building site from the demolition company, Moß. “August Prien” works as part of a consortium with the “Hans Lamers” company, with the facades being built by the “Medicke” company. The whole build time will last for more than two years, with completion of the complex overall project with its various structures is expected in 2022. The project points to the currently high occupancy rate, with tenants including Rewe Dortmund, easy Apotheke, Decathlon Sport, Holiday Inn Express Hotel, along with the carrier Tristar, Regus Co-Working, Bochum City and “Bochum Economic Development” as car park operator already confirmed.

HBB’s project as part of the new inner city initiative

After winning an international tendering process for the development of a new inner city quarter in 2014, HBB together with Architects RKW+ from Düsseldorf and the Bochum City Authorities developed the project further and signed it off. That is the reason why Harald Ortner, HBB’s Managing Director, is visibly pleased with the good progress made by the project: “As the buildings’ owners, there is always a desire to implement new projects quickly. After a long time in preparation, we are even more pleased at being able to lay an important building block for the future regeneration of the inner city.“

2030 Inner City Vision

“Viktoria Karree” is one of the start-up projects for the future inner city development of Bochum City. On the basis of the Integrated Inner City Regeneration Design (ISEK), numerous inner city projects are still to be initiated. For the reconstruction of the neighbouring “Husemannplatz” the tendering process was recently completed, with implementation to occur shortly. In close proximity to the HBB project, the City will allow the “House of Knowledge” to be created in the so-called “Telecoms Block”, with an adult education centre, the city library and an indoor market. “Viktoriastraße” in this way becomes the connecting axis for regeneration of the inner city. Thomas Eiskirch, Bochum City Mayor adds: “Viktoria Karree” has a particular signalling effect for the inner city. Only through this combination of public measures and private investors can we achieve our development plans for the inner city.“
