Attractive bridge

Remscheid is the third largest city in the Bergisches Land and a traditional location for the German metal and tool industry. The old main station and the railway line lay between the city center and the southern quarter. HBB was tasked with redesigning this area and creating a connection between the city quarters. As a Regionale 2006 project, the major project was split: a publicly funded part included the entire infrastructure with squares, ramps and footbridges, while HBB was responsible for two striking commercial properties - the two end points of the southern footbridge over the main station tracks.

The Brücken-Center was created based on a design by the Düsseldorf-based firm RKW Architektur + Städtebau. To the south of the new pedestrian bridge, which also provides access to the platforms, there is now a shopping and leisure center that is visible from afar with its striking warm red color scheme. The anchor tenant Kaufland alone has 4.900 m² of retail space available here. In the north building, on the other hand, there is a sports shop and the station bookstore, among other things. A total of 550 free parking spaces and perfect rail connections make the area, which was inaugurated in April 2009, a center with a pull effect.
