Living with a view of the castle: Our first house in Coburg
The Upper Franconian town of Coburg is part of the Nuremberg metropolitan region and is one of the economically strongest independent cities in Germany. Thanks in particular to the HUK-Coburg insurance company based here, it even came second behind the Munich district in terms of tax revenue per inhabitant. Traditionally, a wide variety of companies in the mechanical engineering and automotive supply industries have also had their headquarters here, contributing to the city's prosperity and low unemployment rate. But Coburg also has a rich history to offer, having been the residence of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg for centuries and still being dominated by the almost 2-year-old Veste Coburg, one of the largest castle complexes in Germany, which towers over the city. What Coburg no longer has, however, despite its location in Franconia, which is renowned for its beer culture, are breweries. The last one was on Callenberger Strasse in the Neuses district.
Brewery grounds revitalized
Since the Sturm brewery ended in 2011, this has been 7.146m2 A large piece of land was fallow - but now HBB is building the first retirement home in Coburg here. The location is ideal for this purpose, at the back there is a small, quiet forest and directly to the south on a hill is Hohenfels Castle, which today houses a speech therapy school. Some rooms will not only offer a view of the striking fortress, but also of a second building worth seeing. The four-story retirement home is located on a long area that rises along Callenberger Straße. At the top of the property, a listed villa remains, whose historical architecture the nursing home carefully incorporates, for example with a tiled gable roof. In this way, we create a harmonious ensemble that also forms a new, attractive entrance to the Neuses district. Overall, the home offers a gross floor area of over 10.000m2 a total of 169 nursing places in 149 rooms. As is usual with homes, there is a high-quality, quiet garden at the rear of the property. And the modern cafeteria should not be missing, which also serves as a meeting point for guests and the neighborhood. This is how we consistently and attractively fill the brewery wasteland with new life.
