Saarbrücken “St. Arnual”

Premiere: First house in Saarland

“A stone's throw to France and a stone's throw to the center of a big city” - this is how the St. Arnual district, located on a hill on the southern edge of Saarbrücken, advertises itself. Characterized by historic multi-story apartment buildings, it is close to the French border and has an ideal connection to the heart of a German state capital. In the middle of this grown structure stands the Catholic Church of St. Pius. It was only built in the 1960s as a striking modern concrete building, including a separate, slender church tower that towers far away. The parish hall and rectory of St. Pius, which were no longer needed, were also located on the same property. However, since social follow-up use was desired, the Christkönig Catholic Parish sold the part of the property to the HBB - as an optimal location for a new seniors' property. When developing the project, we worked very closely and constructively with the community and the diocese of Trier.

New point of contact in the district

Located between Lehmkaulweg and Sigebertstrasse, this is around 4.700 m2 Large, roughly triangular property to the south characterized by a dense population of trees. Along northern Sigebertstrasse, the L-shaped new building forms an urban boundary that encloses a protected, high-quality garden area. The architecture responds intelligently to the hillside location, for example with the planning of the ballroom and garden at basement level. The building also integrates harmoniously into the neighborhood: its white plastered facade and tiled mansard roof correspond to the regional style - but at the same time appear modern and attractive. Inside, the house boasts over 9.000 m2 GFA total of 137 nursing places in 117 rooms, of course all in accordance with contemporary standards. There is also an inviting cafeteria open to the neighborhood and planned cooperation with the church community, for example in terms of events and community work. The house becomes the new social meeting point in the middle of St. Arnual - always in keeping with the motto “In the middle of life”.
