Start of new business quarter Viktoria Karree in Bochum

Revitalization for Bochum city center: New business district on the justice administration site at Husemannplatz +++ City council decides on major HBB project +++ Attractive mix of uses revitalizes the city +++ Fast implementation planned +++

Important decisions for new project

Shortly after the justice administration moved out of Viktoriastrasse in Bochum, the excavators can start rolling in for the development of a new business district for HBB. The Bochum City Council set the decisive course for this in its meeting on April 26. The majority of city representatives decided in favor of HBB's urban development concept with the intended uses. After years of discussion about the future of the site, the Hanseatic Care and Investment Company (HBB) can begin demolishing the inner-city district this year. Bochum's mayor Thomas Eiskirch welcomes the construction project: "The Viktoria Karree is an important milestone in the development of the city center. I am sure that the attractive architecture and the mix of retail, hotel, catering, services and leisure activities will enhance the city and significantly revitalize it."

Attractive business district in Bochum city center

The Viktoria Karree impresses with its open structure with a building ensemble that fits sensitively into the urban environment on Husemannplatz. The international architectural firm RKW Architektur+ from Düsseldorf is responsible for the planning. New retail concepts with large-scale tenants will be created on the first two levels. The retail will be complemented by several restaurants and service offerings as well as a fitness center. A spacious underground car park with around 500 parking spaces on two levels creates space for visitors. It will be connected to the city's underground car park system and managed by Bochum Wirtschaftsentwicklung, Bochum's largest parking garage operator. Flexible office space for different users will be built on the upper floors. The city of Bochum will also be a tenant in the complex. The mix of uses will be rounded off by a modern brand hotel from an international hotel group.

Speedy implementation

Implementation of the project can now begin soon. As soon as the building permit is available, construction will start immediately. The opening of the project is planned for 2021. In total, the Viktoria Karree offers around 38.000 square meters of rental space. HBB is investing around 150 million euros in the project.

Harald Ortner, Managing Director of HBB: "The planned project is an important building block in Bochum's inner-city development. The entire city will experience a huge boost from the quarter after years of stagnation. I am sure that in the next step we will also develop the so-called Telekom block together with our neighbors and the city."
